Big agencies come with big promises, but too often their big brand name comes before what really matters, and clients are left feeling like a number that doesn’t reflect the time that should’ve been devoted to their property. When you’re making decisions about the biggest investment of your life, you want to feel like you have the right person working with you. And that’s why we went into real estate.

In 2016, Smith & Associates Real Estate was started so that the people of Adelaide could receive the support and service that truly makes a difference. We love your house (almost) as much as you do.

Our obsession with real estate did not begin with a thirst for property investment or the desire to be a million-dollar agent. It started with the glossy real estate magazine that arrived on our door step every Saturday morning and the Aussie dream of one day owning our own home.

But long after achieving that goal, while our network was busy making Facebook friends, our Director, Craig Smith, was checking the real estate sites, enthralled by the potential in South Australia and the diversity of properties to suit all tastes. We started to visit open homes and check out properties ‘in-real-life’, interested in what we might find, but after a few months, Craig was disappointed by what he saw.

Too often we saw properties that were over-priced, homes that weren’t ready for sale and vendor’s that weren’t given the service they deserved. We saw agents that were so pressed for time due to tight viewing schedules that they didn’t converse with potential buyers. Distracted by their phones, we experienced a genuine lack of interest in the property or the people, it was almost as if they didn’t care. And while we heard real estate reps promise that ‘someone’ would be in contact to discuss a buyer’s interest, we waited weeks for an agent to return our calls only to be told the property we wanted had gone under contract.

But within all this disappointment, Craig saw an opportunity to do something about it.

While he enjoyed keeping an eye on the property market, Craig realised it was time to take his passion seriously. He knew he could apply his decades of sales experience to show people there is a better way to do real estate. He could see why houses sold or why they sat on the market for months, and years of analysis taught him there is a science to real estate – and it takes more than pushy sales tactics and inflated evaluations to win the trust and loyalty of South Australians.

So, even though this story started with glossy magazines, the true journey of Smith & Associates Real Estate began when Craig completed a Diploma of Property Services in Agency Management and received his Land Agents license. Years in the making, our love for the homes of South Australia was finally made official.
